Refugees

When you're registered as an asylum seeker in Sweden you recieve an LMA card with a personal number that is used within the healthcare system. The card is brought when you visit the doctors office. When new in Sweden one is offered a health check-up free of charge. During the check-up HIV testing is offered. One's HIV status does not effect the chance to get a permanent residency. For people living with HIV this is an opportunity to get information on where to continue your HIV related care and ART treatment.

Access to treatment

If you are in the process of applying for refugee status, any temporary documents you have will be fine.

For information on what clinic to contact, visit 1177.se and choose the region you're in. There you find the address and a phone number to the clinic.

All HIV medications are prescribed through a doctor. Treatment is free for people with a residency. If you're an asylum seeker you need to bring your LMA card which cuts the costs for the medications and health care. If you pay a certain amount for health care the immigrations office can help you with part of the costs.

If you are in Sweden without any legal status or as a tourist, you can go to clinics that provide HIV services. They can offer advice on where to get a hold of ART.
