Country overview

There are no entry and or residence restrictions for people living with HIV in Austria. Antiretroviral medicines can be brought in for personal use in an amount corresponding to the duration of stay. Also, in the case of refugees, HIV is not a reason for refusal to stay and submit documents.
labor

Labor migrants

If someone works regularly in Austria as a migrant, this person automatically receives insurance (compulsory insurance) and is thus automatically entitled to receive ART. Unfortunately, it can happen that there are exploitative conditions especially for migrants, where these persons are not insured. If this is the case, please contact the local Aids Hilfe, which will help you to take care of the insurance status.
refugee

Refugees

In Austria, the state takes care of ensuring health. All people living in the country are entitled to health care. Asylum seekers, persons granted asylum and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection who are in basic care are also covered by health insurance in Austria.
