Country overview

There are no restrictions on entry or residence in the country for people living with HIV. Antiretroviral drugs may be carried for personal use in quantities appropriate to the length of stay. To bring ART into the country, it is advisable to have a prescription from a doctor with you. Citizens of Moldova living with HIV receive treatment at the expense of the Health Insurance Fund.
labor

Labor migrants

When officially employed, migrant workers receive a certificate of compulsory health insurance at their place of work. Insurance provides foreigners with the same access to medical services as nationals. Compulsory health insurance covers general, emergency medical services and examinations, including observation and treatment for HIV infection (lack of insurance is not an obstacle to receiving life-saving treatment).
refugee

Refugees

Persons with confirmed international protection (refugee status) or temporary protection receive ART if they have a passport without issuing additional documents. The lack of other documents is not an obstacle to receiving life-saving ARV treatment.
If refugees plan to stay in the country for a long time, they will need to obtain a residence permit (RP). After receiving the residence permit, you must contact the employment office, which issues the status of unemployed (issued for 3 months). It also issues health insurance. Compulsory health insurance covers only general and emergency medical services and examinations. This includes HIV surveillance and treatment (lack of health insurance is not an obstacle to receiving life-saving ART).
When transiting through Moldova, refugees can turn to NGOs for support. Their staff will help you find a hospital, get tested and get the necessary ART.

Access to treatment

You can get ART and medical care in specialized clinics that provide services to people living with HIV. You will need to have with you:
  1. Passport
  2. For those who are employed - compulsory health insurance (lack of insurance is not an obstacle to receiving vital treatment).
  3. For refugees - a document confirming refugee status: temporary protection card (the absence of an identification card is not an obstacle to receiving life-saving treatment).
